If you use outlook on your Android or ios mobile phone or tablet you’ll notice that it defaults to having threading turned on. Some people love it and some people hate it. We show you how to turn Threaded Conversations off or on as you see fit.
What is Thread View in Outlook Mobile
Threading, also known as “conversation view” in email applications like Outlook, is a feature that groups related emails together in a single thread. This means that all the messages in a conversation, including replies and forwards, are displayed together. Here’s a quick rundown of threading:
- Grouped Messages: Instead of seeing individual emails separately, threading groups them based on the same subject line and participants.
- Easier Tracking: Helps you follow the flow of a conversation without having to search for each related email.
- Collapsible Threads: You can expand or collapse the thread to see or hide the emails within it, making your inbox cleaner and more organized.
- Contextual Continuity: Provides better context for your emails, as you can see the entire conversation in one place.
Threading can be a useful feature for keeping your inbox organized and making it easier to follow email conversations. However, if you prefer to see each email separately, you can always disable threading or conversation view in your email settings.
How To Disable Thread / Conversation View In Outlook Mobile
You can disable threading by going to Settings > Organize Mail by Thread and toggling it off. This will show your emails separately instead of grouped by threads.

Thanks so much. Your video is very helpful. I’d never noticed that little gear when I looked at the folder list on my phone. That was very helpful because with Settings – Mail I was able to turn off the Focused/Other grouping, another dis-improvement. Threading is now called the less transparent “Email Organization.” Its “>” has only one item: “Group Emails by Conversation.” I turned that off. Very grateful!
