If you see the following error: Cannot open the Outlook window. Invalid XML, the view cannot be loaded
The solution is to click START and type: Outlook.exe /ResetNavPane

Update for Windows 10. Simultaneously hit the Windows key and the letter “x” on your keyboard. Then from the popup list, select “Windows Powershell Admin” and select ‘yes’.
cd C:\ to get the top of the tree.
cd ‘Program Files (x86)’ -type it EXACTLY as written
cd ‘Microsoft Office’ (Tip: You can type Micro and hit the [tab] key for auto complete)
cd ‘root’
cd ‘Office16’
Now the outlook.exe /ResetNavPane can be found and executed.
