SOLVED: How To Deactivate A Microsoft Office 365 Activation

Microsoft Office 365 licenses allow each user to install M365 on up to 5 different devices. So the question arises what happens when you have your 6th device? The answer is you will get error messages and the solution is to deactivate one of your Microsoft 365 activations to make room.

There are two different ways to deactivate an M365 activation.

1 – Corporate Administrators

Corporate admins can deactivate a users M365 activation by:

  1. Loginto https://portal.office.com and click the ADMIN icon on the bottom of left menu
  2. Expand USERS and click on ACTIVE USERS
  3. Search for the user in question and click on him/her
  4. On the ACCOUNT tab, scroll to the very bottom and the VIEW MICROSOFT 365 ACTIVATIONS link
  5. Find the M365 activation you wish to disable, and click the X on the far right

2 – Individual Consumers

To remove just one of a user’s Microsoft 365 activations, you can deactivate the installation from the Office portal:

  1. Office portal: Surf to portal.office.com and sign in with your Microsoft 365 account
  2. Account Settings: Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner and select My Account
  3. View Apps & Devices: Under the Office apps & devices section, click on View apps & devices
  4. Deactivate: You will see a list of devices where Office is installed. Find the device you want to deactivate and click Sign out next to it
