Volume shadow copies are used to take a snapshot of how a disk volume was at a particular point in time. Their management is mostly automated and usually works well without intervention, But there are times in which shadow copies are consuming a fair amount of space and you can’t delete them using the Configure Shadow Copies window.
In this very short 3 minute video we show you how to delete Shadow Copies in three different ways:
VSSAdmin delete shadows /all
in an elevated command prompt to delete all Shadow CopiesVSSAdmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=900MB
to shrink space available to Shadow Copies, so they have to purge the old stuck Shadow CopiesIf you have any questions or concerns about shadow copy, simply leave a comment below and we will do our best to respond.
