If you have tried to uninstall an old version of Semantic Endoint Protection (SEP) and found that it just won’t die there are two ready solutions:

1: Free Symantec Endpoint Protection Removal Tool

Symantec, well now Broadcom, has made available a free utility to uninstall old versions and damaged versions of semantic endpoint protection. It is a pain to find so we have a copy of it that you can download Symantec Clean Wipe directly from us right HERE. If you don’t trust us, click here and scroll to the very bottom of this Broadcom page and download it from them.

Note that as you can see in the screenshot below, we select all three Symantec programs to uninstall even if they don’t exist on computer in question:

2: Disable Services, Disable Tamper Protection & Uninstall

In most cases, if Symantec Endpoint Protection won’t uninstall, the problem is that TAMPER PROTECTION is still enabled. You should:

  1. Launch the Symnatec Endpoint Protection client
  2. Click CHANGE SETTINGS
  3. Click TAMPER PROTECTION
  4. Uncheck PROTECT SYMANTEC SECURITY SOFTWARE FROM BEING TAMPERS WITH OR SHUT DOWN
  5. Click OK
  6. Launch SERVICES
  7. Double click on any SYMANTEC services and change the STARTUP TYPE to DISABLED
  8. Reboot the computer
  9. Try to uninstaller Symantec Endpoint Protection again, via PROGRAMS AND FEATURES (aka INSTALLED APPS)
