Microsoft does wants to keep its product clean and simple looking so during firmware updates they use a colored bar under the Surface logo to give the user a calm sense of what is happening.
The problem is that even techs that work on these frequently are not sure what exactly is going on so we have produced this list:
PROGRESS BAR COLOR | FIRMWARE BEING UPDATED |
BLUE | Surface UEFI firmware update |
GREEN | System Embedded Controller firmware update |
ORANGE | SAM Controller firmware update |
RED | Intel Management Engine firmware |
GRAY / GREY | Surface touch firmware |
LIGHT GREEN | Surface KIP firmware |
LIGHT PINK | Surface ISH firmware |
PINK | Surface Trackpad firmware |
LIGHT GRAY | Surface TCON firmware |
PURPLE | Surface TPM firmware |
