If you have a WordPress site and have installed Google Site Kit, you may see that it gets stuck and stays endlessly on CHECKING COMPATIBILITY. If that happens there are several possible fixes but in most cases the issue seems to be that Google is unable to verify the site because of SSL issues.

The solution is to make sure that your WordPress SETTINGS > GENERAL > WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) are both set to use HTTPS:// prefix. That, of course, assumes your site has SSL. If it does not do NOT make that change.
