Until the last round of Windows Updates, I did not see this issue more than once every few years. The problem is that a ghost menu item will stay on the screen until a logoff occurs.
SOLUTION 1 DRIVERS:
- Update your video drivers
SOLUTION 2 DISABLE MENU FADES
- in the CONTROL PANEL click SYSTEM (yes, there are many wayst to get to SYSTEM so do the one you like best)
- click ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS (top LEFT menu)
- click the SETTINGS button on the PERFORMANCE section
- UNcheck FADE OUT MENU ITEMS AFTER CLICKING
TEMPORARY FIX:
- Change your monitor configuration in DISPLAY SETTINGS
- change the resolution
- if you have two screens, swap them
- change the monitor frequency
Thanks to THIS and other blogs for the assistance in developing this fix.
