Today Microsoft released 64 bit editions of Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP. Both of these products have the latest service packs already installed.
Also released was Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 server. This will not only increase the level of security in the core product (as it is based on SP2 for WinXP) but it also has notable enhancements to Terminal Server, IIS and other common services.
At a demonstration of SP1, I found the most compelling feature to be the “Security Configuration Wizard” that evaluates the services, ports and programs your server is using. It then tells you in detail what it is going to change, then it disables what you do not need.
